In honour of Cousin Jason’s Lamb’s big birthday (I won’t say which one just in case) most of the Tate’s made the 5 to 6 hour drive down to Pittsburgh to watch the Penguins host the Toronto Maple Leafs. There were a number of fans of both teams amongst our families so the natural rivalry added some fun to the night.
Jason and his wife Mary have three boys, Tyler, Tucker and Trevor so when you add in Adam and Toronto cousins Noah, Alex and Abby as well as various parents and grandparents it is a big group and makes for a great event! The Lambs have an awesome house and are amazing hosts so it’s always a fun time in Pittsburgh.
We headed downtown to the Consol Energy Center (now known as the PPG Paints Arena) to catch the game. It is a really nice arena. Opened in 2010, it seats just over 18,000 for hockey and won the 2011 Best NHL Arena from the Sports Business Journal. The game was a back and forth affair with the visiting Maple Leafs coming out on top 3 – 2 in a shootout. Always lots of fun when it goes to a shootout! The Leafs fans in our group had bragging rights for the rest of our trip.
