We had heard good things about the new Little Caesars Arena (opened 2017) but were really impressed once we got on site. Downtown Detroit is still a little sketchy as it undergoes its redevelopment phase but the arena itself is awesome.
Adam’s friend Aidan and his family, dad Carm, mom Sherry and sister Ava were in in Detroit visiting friends and mentioned they were going to go to the game so we figured…”3 hour drive…no problem” and grabbed a hotel and headed to Detroit.
Once there, one of Carm’s friends gave us a tour of the rink. Its really a great barn with lots of tributes to the history of Detroit hockey.
As well as some new technology with interactive displays scattered throughout the concourse.
One of the other great features of the rink is that a whole bunch of restaurants are accessible from both inside and outside the arena. It’s an idea that I think more arenas should adopt as it creates more dining options for fans. The game was a good one with the Leafs squeaking out a 3 – 2 victory.
Nephew David hooked us up with his buddy Luke Witkowski who played defense for the Red Wings. Adam, Aidan and I went down to the dressing room after the game and Luke gave us a tour. He was also nice enough to give Adam a Detroit Red Wings hat. He was really gracious, even after the loss and we all thoroughly enjoyed the tour!
After the tour we headed back upstairs to the waiting family members and said our good byes as Adam and I headed back to the hotel. It was a great night at an amazing arena!
