3 States of Fog, a Big Mall and Awesome Mini-Golf – Minnesota – March 2019

Minnesota is a tough barn to work into a multi-barn trip so we bit the bullet and flew out to see it on it’s own.

We landed, checked into our hotel and headed out for a drive. Adam, in his quest to go to all the US States, had figured out that a couple of them were “pretty close” and as we were already in Minnesota, he could knock 3 more off of his list.

The challenge was the weather turned crazy foggy so driving was a little hectic sometimes but we got them all done.

Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin

Nothing too exciting on the drive but we did hang out at the “Welcome to Iowa” tourist center and discover a “Super Target” which we had to stop at and see what it was all about. Turns out it’s a big Target…who knew?

Adam had found a place online that got great reviews for its wood-fire cooked pizzas so we headed back to Minneapolis and tracked down Lola. Definitely a great spot! Pizza was awesome and the staff were amazing and very friendly. They have a photo booth and you can hang your pics on the wall. Take a look for us if you get a chance.

After a great meal we headed back to the hotel to crash out after a long but fun day!

What would a visit to Minneapolis/St. Paul be without a trip to the Mall of America. With over 500 stores, it’s the largest shopping centre in the US and second in North America only to West Edmonton Mall (see xxxxxxxx).

We got there early as shopping isn’t my favourite thing but were still surprised at the number of cars and people. It is quite the tourist destination!

Very huge Lego display.

The other cool attraction for the day was a little more unique. Adam had found out about a super cool mini-golf course that was located in an old canning factory in Minneapolis. It is called Can Can Wonderland and the cool part is that each of the 18 holes were designed by a different local artist. They ran a compettion, had tons of entries and picked the 18 best.

It is also a bar, an arcade and has conference facilities but we were pressed for time so we only had a chance to do the mini-golf. Still, well worth the trip!

After a fun round where Adam squeaked out a victory (ok, he beat me by a bunch) we headed back to the hotel and got ready for the Minnesota Wild game. The hotel we stayed at provided a shuttle right to the arena so we took advantage of that option.

The Wild were playing the Dallas Stars and both were in the playoff hunt so it was looking to be a good game.

The Wild have a booth set up that allows you to get a puck, a certificate and a picture if it is your first Minnesota Wild game.

Sweet!
First Game!

Another highlight was a good selection of concessions. Adam ordered pasta and meatballs!

The game was a good one with the visitors emerging triumphant by a 4 – 1 score.

They were serving drinks in cool Minnesota Wild cups so we grabbed a few as souveniers.

Another fun and jam-packed day! Rink #29 is in the books.

After a good sleep at the hotel were we up and headed to the airport. We spent some time in a different kind of lounge that we accessed through my AMEX card. It is called an Escape Lounge and was really good! The food selection was wesome and the space itself was well laid out and comfortable. We highly recommend it.

Chilling in the lounge.
